Mumbai Indians have defeated Kolkata Knight  Riders in eight out of last ten games that they have played

The first few matches of IPL 2020 have been nail-biting. We have already seen a super over in the second match of the tournament, the value of experience, and a number of very improved players. In the fifth match of Indian Premier League 2020, two time title holder Kolkata Knight Riders will face defending champions Mumbai Indians.

Kolkata Knight Riders haven’t had good memories for the last five seasons and will be looking for a positive start this time. On the other hand Mumbai Indians were beaten by Chennai Super Kings in their opening match of the tournament.

Kolkata Knight Riders would feel pressure against Mumbai Indians as they haven’t tasted much success against them. Knight Riders lack depth in their bowling which may create problems for them. On the other hand Mumbai Indians is much more balanced team than Knight Riders.

With no Chris Lynn in their side, Shubman Gill is expected to open the innings along with Sunil Narine during the whole tournament. However Narine was seen on the bench in last few matches of Caribbean Premier League and he might be rested if not fully fit. In that case, Tom Banton will partner with Gill at top of the order.

With Nitish Rana, Eoin Morgan, Dinesh Karthik, Andre Russel in middle order, Kolkata has one of the best middle order among all the teams this season in IPL. Nitish Rana has been pretty consistent in last season, Eoin Morgan is one of the best batsman in middle order while Andre Russel needs no introduction.

KKR’s bowling attack is bit weaker this year as well. They have bought Pat Cummins in auction but he was also expensive in T20 and ODI series against England. Kuldeep Yadav was dropped from the team due to his poor form last year while local fast bowlers are also inexperienced.

On the other hand Mumbai Indians started on a slower note against Chennai. Rohit Sharma and Quinny looked in great touch but couldn’t convert their starts into a big score. Sourabh Tiwary was sent on number four and he scored 41 off 31 deliveries. According to our point of view, Mumbai could use Kieron Pollard at number four position as he is highly experienced campaigner and sending him at number six doesn’t make any sense.

With Suryakumar Yadav, Saurabh Tiwary, Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya, Mumbai has similar power packed middle order to that of Kolkata. Jasprit Bumrah looked out of touch against Chennai. He didn’t seem to be confident enough to try for his toe crushing yorkers and ended up conceding lots of runs. Trent Boult was their best bowler and his ability to pick up wickets in powerplays will be once again crucial for Mumbai.

James Pattinson was included in the team in place of Lasith Malinga but he could be replaced by one Mitchell McClenaghan or Nathan Coulter – Nile. Rahul Chahar will once again lead spin attack along with Krunal Pandya.
