Mumbai Indians have won 9 out of the last 10 matches they played against Kolkata Knight Riders
It is 32nd game of the IPL 2020 and Mumbai Indians will be keen to regain number one spot in points table when they meet Kolkata Knight Riders. Having already won last nine games out of 10 against KKR, Mumbai Indians are huge favorites to win this game. On the other hand after a poor start in the tournament, KKR finds themselves in top four at midway.
This is an important match for both the teams but taking both team’s form into consideration it is clear that Mumbai Indians has lesser to loose.
With consistent performances so far, Mumbai Indians has been the best performing team of the tournament. With five wins out of seven matches, MI is currently placed on second position. Apart from this, their net run rate is best among all the teams. Their closest competitor untill now would be Delhi Capitals but even they proved to be no match.
Mumbai Indians has been pretty consistent in terms of team selection. Rohit Sharma does not like to make too many changes in the final lineup even if someone perform below expectations and we expect the same team to take the field in this game as well.
MI top order has been pretty consistent so far. Rohit Sharma, Quinton de Kock, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan have scored atleast one fifty in the tournament so far. Down the order they have power hitters like Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, who have scored heaps of runs in last five overs of the innings.
In terms of bowling, Jasprit Bumrah remains their standout bowler with other bowlers supporting him well. Trent Boult is picking up wickets during the powerplay which let MI to dominate the game. James Pattinson has also picked up wickets when needed while in terms of spin attack, Rahul Chahar and Krunal Pandya have bowled pretty well during middle overs of the game.
On the other hand Kolkata Knight Riders added Tom Banton in place of Sunil Narine but the Englishman couldn’t impress in his IPL debut. Due to suspect bowling action, Narine could be seen on the bench untill and unless he is given clean chit. However, KKR has strongest middle order on the paper but on the field it hasn’t fired up yet. The likes of Nitish Rana, Eoin Morgan, Andre Russel, Dinesh Karthik form a formidable middle order but none among the four has given consistent performances.
The inclusion of Tom Banton as a specialist opener may turn in KKR’s favor as Sunil Narine was never seen in great touch as an opener in this season. This will certainly reduce pressure on youngster Shubman Gill who has been scoring runs consistently up the order.
In terms of bowling, absence of Sunil Narine may hurt KKR’s campaign as it is considered to be their weakest point. Pat Cummins hasn’t performed as per his price tag while youngsters like Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Prasidh Krishna are talented but none among them is world class. Exclusion of Narine will mean that KKR is left with Varun Chakravarthy as a lone specialist spinner as Kuldeep Yadav is not the part of final eleven due to his poor form.
Overall, pressure would be on KKR as they have really poor record against Mumbai Indians. Apart from this their team form is also a matter of concern.
