WBBL 2021 has got its finalists in the form of Perth Scorchers and Adelaide Strikers. Both the sides will be looking to lift the trophy for the first time. Although both these finalists have entered tournament’s final in earlier seasons but were never crowned as champions.
Perth Scorchers Women have reached final twice back in 2016 and 2017, but were denied the crown by Sydney Sixers on both occasions. On the other hand Adelaide Strikers Women reached the finals back in 2019, where they faced defeat against Brisbane Heat Women. However, this year we will witness a new champion of the tournament.
During the league stages, Perth Scorchers have won both the games against Adelaide Strikers Women which will definitely boost the confidence of Devine and company. They have been the most complete side in the tournament so far, after winning nine if their league stages matches, loosing just three to top the points table and directly booked the ticket of finals.
Sophie Devine and Beth Mooney have been playing some outstanding cricket at top of the order and the duo will like to carry their momentum in the finals as well. Chloe Piparo and Heather Graham have provided crucial partnerships in the recent games, ensuring the scoring rate in middle overs of the game. Mathilda Carmichael, Piepa Cleary, Amy Louise add further depth in batting order.
In the bowling department, Scorchers will be hoping that Taneale Peschel and Marizanne Kapp would provide early breakthrough as Strikers’ top order has shown an excellent form in recent matches. Skipper Sophie Devine would have to make good use of her experience in middle overs the game along with Heather Graham and Cleary. Other bowling options are Alana King and Lilly Mills.
On the other hand, Adelaide Strikers Women’s confidence would be sky high after winning back to back one sided games. They are in the finals after crushing Melbourne Renegades by 9 wickets.
Katie Mack has been in prolific form in the last three games and will definitely want to carry her momentum in the final game of the tournament. Her partner Dane van Niekerk has been on and off but the side will be hoping for another good contribution if they want to be crowned as champions this time. Middle order duties will be upon skipper Tahlia McGrath, Laura Wolvaardt, Bridget Patterson. Although Adelaide Strikers have power packed top order but their lower middle order looks shaggy on papers.
Talking about bowling department of Strikers’, Darcie Brown is their lone consistent bowler. Megan Schutt’s returning to form in final stages of the tournament seems to be a big relief for the side. Amanda Jade Wellington alongwith skipper McGrath, will have to bowl in the right areas against in form Scorchers.
Tournament – Women Big Bash League 2021
Venue – Perth Stadium, Perth
Date – 27th November 2021
Timings – 1:40 PM ( IST ), 4:10 PM ( Local )
Clear skies are expected over Perth on match day and we will have ideal conditions for the finals.
Surface is expected to be flat one where batters will find it easier to score runs. It is one of the toughest surface to bowl for spinners in Australia as they hardly find any assistance from it.
It’s a big ground but scoring runs have been pretty easier as well. In the past we have witnessed successful chases and team batting first will really have to post a big total in order to be crowned as champions.
