Shikhar Dhawan became the first batsman ever to score back to back centuries in IPL history

42nd match of ongoing Indian Premier League 2020 will witness an encounter between Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals. Kolkata Knight Riders is in a critical situation where every loss will increase hopes of bottom ranked teams to claim fourth position in points table. While Delhi Capitals are strong candidate for top two position and they knows the importance to finish in top two in group stages.
Kolkata Knight Riders will have to rebuild their strategy after having lost to Royal Challengers Bangalore in a dramatic fashion. With a solid middle order, they were bowled out of 84 in 20 overs and then ended up loosing in 14th over of second innings.
If KKR manages to win rest of their remaining matches they will qualify for the playoffs. They are still in better position to finish at number four but their poor show against RCB have raised several questions. KKR is likely to be without Andre Russel for this fixture which will definitely increase their worries. Although Sunil Narine has got clearance so he might be included in final playing 11.
Inclusion of Narine means KKR will have to reshuffle their batting order. Tom Banton might have to sit out if Narine steps in. Narine hasn’t had good time while opening the innings with Shubman Gill and was eventually shifted in middle order. Will Narine open the innings or bat in middle order still remains a question if he is selected in final eleven.
It’s not only the poor show of batsmen that is hurting KKR’s campaign but bowlers have also contributed in team’s defeats. Being the costliest overseas player in IPL history, Pat Cummins has been very ordinary in bowling department. Inclusion of Lockie Ferguson worked in KKR’s favor but he cannot win every match single handedly. Prasidh Krishna, Shivam Mavi are talented but none among the duo is world class bowler.
On the other hand after facing defeat against Kings XI Punjab, Capitals will not like to take any game lightly. Finishing in top two in group stages will ensure extra benefits to qualify for the final game and DC knows its importance. So far Delhi Capitals has been a better performing team and seem to have cover all their basis.
In terms of batting, Shikhar Dhawan has made history by becoming the first ever player to score back to back centuries in IPL. He along with skipper Shreyas Iyer, has performed consistently well in terms of batting. While the likes of Marcus Stoinis and Shimron Hetmyer are capable of hitting the ball over the boundary ropes from the very first ball.
In terms of bowling, Kagiso Rabada is the leading wicket taker and currently he is purple cap holder. Rabada has picked up atleast one wicket in IPL since last season. His fellow countryman Anrich Nortje has been a valuable addition in the team. Nortje made history by bowling fastest bowl in IPL history and is capable of bowling at a speed of about 150 km/hr consistently.
As for now Delhi is strong candidate for the playoffs but they will be eyeing on top two spots.
