Kolkata Knight Riders has already won last game against Sunrisers Hyderabad this season
In 35th contest of Indian Premier League 2020, Sunrisers Hyderabad are set to lock their horns against Kolkata Knight Riders at Sheikh Zayed Stadium. After a poor show against Mumbai Indians, KKR still find themselves in middle of the points table whereas a win for Sunrisers Hyderabad over KKR will push their ranking in points table which will bring them close to playoffs.
As for now KKR have had mixed season where they managed to win four games out of total 8 matches played. On the other hand Sunrisers Hyderabad have won three matches out of their total 8 matches played. It’s an important match for both sides keeping race to playoffs in mind.
With Kane Williamson playing brilliant role in middle order, everything look settled in terms of batting for Sunrisers Hyderabad. At top of the order SRH have David Warner, Jonny Bairstow, Manish Pandey who are in good touch and the trio have scored atleast one half century in the tournament so far. Their biggest worry at the moment is bowling.
After the departure of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, bowling attack of Sunrisers Hyderabad looked vulnerable which was considered to be the strongest area in recent past. His non availability has put all the pressure on Rashid Khan. However, T Natarajan has impressed due to his ability to bowl those toe crushing yorkers but he needs to be more consistent.
Keeping their bowling worries aside, Sunrisers have done pretty well. Their net run rate of +0.009 suggests that margin of defeats haven’t been enormous.
Another dilemma for Sunrisers Hyderabad will be adding Mohammad Nabi in playing 11. SRH needs a finisher like him who can score quick runs as pitches are getting slower and batting is not that easier. Apart from his batting skills, Nabi can be very effective with the ball, taking nature of pitch into consideration.
Going by their performance, Sunrisers Hyderabad look a better team than Kolkata Knight Riders in terms of batting as well as bowling. However Sunrisers Hyderabad’s bowling performance has declined but still its pretty much balanced side on the paper.
On the other hand, Kolkata Knight Riders is a team that has performed below expectations this year. Although they have one of the strongest middle order among all the teams but it has resulted in their weakest part. In their last match against Mumbai Indians, it was Pat Cummins who scored half century while none of their batsmen showed temperament to stay at crease except newly appointed skipper i.e. Eoin Morgan.
Leaving Shubman Gill aside no other batsmen at top of the order showed maturity. While batting at number three, Nitish Rana is having a poor season so far. Player like Andre Russel is also looking off color. While the costliest overseas player in IPL history i.e. Pat Cummins is wicketless from last few matches. It’s not only the batting department, but the bowlers are equally responsible for team’s poor performance.
Varun Chakravarthy is the only one who has bowled with greater accuracy and he finds himself among wicket takers as well. Prasidh Krishna, Shivam Mavi, Kamlesh Nagarkoti clearly lack experience and the experienced Kuldeep Yadav is consistently seen on bench due to his poor form.
Overall Kolkata Knights Riders will be under serious pressure when they face Sunrisers Hyderabad.
